AVIF to JPG

Image

Drop AVIF images and get JPGs back — converted on your device, several at a time.

Loading tool…

AVIF is a newer picture format: small files, good quality, and more and more websites serve it. Plenty of software does not open it yet — older photo editors, office programs, upload forms that ask for JPG or PNG. JPG opens everywhere. Drop the AVIF files in and they come back as JPGs, with JPEG already chosen as the output.

Your browser does the reading, so it needs a browser that opens AVIF itself: any current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari does. JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas become white, and the tool warns you before converting. Quality starts at 85%; lower it for a smaller file, or set a target size and let the tool find the quality that fits. The JPG will usually be larger than the AVIF — that is the price of opening everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I open AVIF files?

AVIF is newer than most of the programs that handle pictures, and many have not added it yet. Current browsers open it, which is how this tool can read it and save a JPG that everything opens.

Will the JPG be larger than the AVIF?

Usually. AVIF is one of the most efficient formats there is; a JPG of the same picture at a similar quality takes more bytes. Lower the quality or set a target size if the file has to be small.

What happens to a transparent background?

JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas become white. The tool notices which files have them and says so before converting. To keep the transparency, choose PNG as the output.

Can I convert several AVIF files at once?

Yes. Drop them together and they are converted in one go and downloaded as a zip. Free use has a cap on how many files go into one batch; Pro removes it.

Are my images uploaded?

No. They are read and converted in your own browser, and saved straight to your device.
