Text you add goes on top of the page; the text already in the PDF is not rewritten, and the editor tells you so rather than pretending. A scanned PDF can be made searchable: the editor reads the words on each scanned page, on your device, and adds them invisibly under the picture, so the saved file can be searched and copied from while looking exactly as it did. When saving, the pictures inside can be made smaller too, without touching anything else. A digitally signed PDF is flagged before you change it, because any change invalidates the signature.

Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded when I edit it?
No. It is opened, shown and saved in your browser. Nothing about the document is sent to Alvseike.
Can I edit the text that is already in the PDF?
Not yet. You can add new text, pictures and shapes on top of a page, and reorder, rotate or delete pages, but the words already in the PDF are left as they are. Covering them with a white box hides them on screen only — they are still in the file and can be copied out, so it is not a way to remove sensitive text.
Will my form fields and links survive?
Yes. The editor changes the original document in place rather than copying pages into a new one, so form fields, links, bookmarks and print settings come through. A digitally signed PDF is the exception by design: any change invalidates the signature, and the editor warns you before you start.
Can it make a scanned PDF searchable?
Yes. When pages have no text in them — a scan — the editor offers to read them. The words are read on your device by the same engine as the OCR Scanner and written invisibly under each page, lined up with the words in the picture, so search, selection and copying work in any PDF viewer. The page looks exactly as it did; nothing is uploaded.
Which characters can I type?
Added text uses the PDF standard fonts, which cover Western European languages — æ, ø, å, é, ü, € and the like. If you type a character they cannot write, the editor names it before you save rather than failing.
