Frequently asked questions
Can I just use a PNG as a favicon?
Modern browsers accept a PNG favicon, but favicon.ico is still what many tools, older browsers and some crawlers look for first — at the root of the site, without being told. Having both is the safe choice; the full pack gives you both.
What sizes are inside the .ico?
16, 32 and 48 pixels — the sizes used for browser tabs, bookmarks, the taskbar and desktop shortcuts. Larger icons for phones and home screens are separate PNGs, in the full pack.
My logo is not square. What happens?
It is centred and cropped to a square, and the preview shows exactly what will be kept. For a wide logo, a square symbol from it usually works better than the whole thing shrunk down.
Is my logo uploaded?
No. The icon is drawn and packed in your browser, on your own device.
