Trim Video

Video

Drop a video, mark where it should start and end, and download the part you want — on your device.

Loading tool…

Most videos are longer than the part worth sending: the seconds of fumbling before a phone clip starts, the end of a screen recording where you reach for the stop button, a long recording with one moment in it. Drop the video in and set where it should start and stop — drag the clip's two edges on the timeline, use the Start and End sliders, or play it, pause on the exact frame, and press Start here or End here. Then press Trim & download.

The part you keep is written as a new file, every frame of it encoded again in your browser — a compressed video cannot be cut between its keyframes without that — and the sound comes with it. Where the browser can, each frame is drawn at its own time, so it is usually faster than playing the clip; nothing is uploaded, so there is no wait for the file to go anywhere first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I cut on an exact moment?

Play the clip in the preview, pause it where the video should begin and press Start here; do the same for the end with End here. The arrow keys step one frame at a time while it is paused, and the Start and End lines show the times to a tenth of a second.

Will the trimmed video lose quality?

It is encoded again — a compressed video cannot be cut between its keyframes without that — at 8 Mbit/s, so it is a new file rather than a copy of the original's bytes. For a phone clip the difference is hard to see; it is not a lossless cut.

Can I cut a piece out of the middle?

Yes: drop the same video twice, trim the first copy to end before the piece and the second to start after it, and the two are joined into one file.

What format does it save?

MP4 where your browser can write it — Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox can, though Firefox writes the sound as Opus rather than AAC — otherwise WebM. You can choose just above the button.

Is the video uploaded?

No. The video is read and the trimmed copy written by your own browser. If you reload the page, your trims come back and the video is asked for again — it is too large to keep in the browser.
