The size of a video is its bitrate times its length, so the tool works out the bitrate the target allows for your clip and encodes at that, then checks the result and corrects once if the encoder overshot. What it will not do is pretend: a long clip squeezed into 10 MB at full resolution turns to mush, so before you spend the time encoding it tells you when the target is out of reach at the current resolution, and offers the sharpest one that fits in a single tap. Frequently asked questions
Will the video be exactly 10 MB?
It aims just under. Browsers treat the requested bitrate as a guide rather than a rule, so the tool measures the result and re-encodes once if it came out over. If a very detailed clip is still over after that, it says so rather than handing you a file that will be rejected.
Is 10 MB 10,000,000 bytes or 10,485,760?
The tool aims for 10,000,000 bytes. A file that size passes a 10 MB limit whichever way the site counts; one aimed at the larger figure could be rejected by a site that counts in thousands.
What if my video is too long for 10 MB?
Every second needs a share of the 10 MB, so a long clip gets very little per second. Past a point, only fewer pixels help. The tool warns before encoding when that is the case, and suggests the highest resolution at which the clip can realistically fit.
How long does it take?
About as long as the video plays. The browser re-encodes it in real time, on your device. You can stop at any point.
Will it still be an MP4?
It comes out as MP4 wherever your browser can record MP4, which plays almost everywhere, and as WebM where it cannot. You can switch between them under Format when both are available.
Is my video uploaded?
