Video Face Blur

Video

Find the faces in a video and blur, pixelate or cover them in every frame, followed as they move — on your device, never uploaded.

Video Face Blur hides the faces in a video before you post it — the people in the background of a vlog, a child at a school event, a bystander who never agreed to be filmed. Drop in the video and the faces are found on your device, four frames a second, and followed from frame to frame as they move. Each is blurred, pixelated or covered with a solid colour in every frame it is in, and you watch the preview with the faces already hidden before anything is saved: leave a face visible, remove one, or drag across anything the finder missed — a face turned away, a number plate, a name badge — and set when it starts and ends. The video is written frame for frame with the original sound, as MP4 or WebM. It finds where faces are, never who they belong to, and the video never leaves your device.

MP4, MOV or WebM. The faces are found on your device, four frames a second, and followed as they move.

  2. 2

The preview plays with the faces already hidden. Click a face to leave it visible or remove it; drag across anything missed and set when it starts and ends.

  3. 3
    Hide faces and download

Choose blur, pixelate or a solid colour; every frame is written with the faces of its own moment, and the original sound.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded to find the faces?

No. The faces are found by a small model that runs in your browser, and the video is read and written on your device. What is downloaded is the face finder itself, from Alvseike, the first time — your browser keeps it.

How does it follow a face that moves?

It reads four frames a second and links each face to where it was a quarter of a second before. Between two readings it hides the whole area the face could have crossed, not a guess between them, so a face moving across the picture stays covered. A face lost for a moment — turned away, a hand in front — is held where it was last seen, and each face is hidden a little before it is first found and after it is last seen.

Will it find every face in the video?

Most, not always all. A face turned right away, mostly hidden, very small, or on screen for only a frame or two can be missed. The preview plays with the faces hidden and outlined: watch it through before you save, and drag across anything it missed — it is then hidden from the start to the end of the video until you set its times.

Does it recognise who is in the video?

No. It finds where a face is in each frame — nothing more. There is no recognition and no list of people, and nothing about the faces is kept.

Can I blur a number plate or a name badge?

Yes, by hand: drag across it, then use Starts here and Ends here to set when it is hidden. Only faces are found automatically.

What does it save, and how long can the video be?

The video at its own size, as MP4 — or WebM, if you choose it or your browser cannot write MP4 — with the original sound. Finding and checking the faces is free at any length; saving counts as one run, and a video over 30 seconds is part of Pro. Trimming it in the Video Editor first is the free way round.
