Unlock PDF
PDFTake the password and the printing or copying limits off a PDF you are allowed to open — in your browser, never uploaded.
Unlock PDF takes the protection off a PDF you are allowed to use: a bank statement you have to type the password into every time, a form that will not print, a report whose text cannot be copied. Drop it in. If it needs a password to open, you type it once and the copy you download opens without one; if it opens already but printing, copying or editing is restricted, those limits come off by themselves. The password is used in your browser, once, and never kept — and the PDF itself is never uploaded, which matters for exactly the documents people lock. Nothing is guessed or broken: a PDF whose password you do not have stays locked. The unlocked copy is the same PDF in every other way, its text searchable and its pages unchanged.

Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF or its password uploaded to unlock it?
No. The PDF is opened in your own browser, the password is used there once to open it, and the unlocked copy is saved straight to your device. Neither is sent anywhere or kept.
Can it unlock a PDF without the password?
Only when the password guards nothing but printing, copying or editing — a PDF that opens without a password but will not print. Those limits come off by themselves. A PDF that needs a password to open cannot be opened without it: nothing here guesses or breaks passwords.
Is it legal to unlock a PDF?
For PDFs you are entitled to use — your own documents, or ones whose password you were given, such as a bank statement — removing the password for your own convenience is ordinary. Removing protection someone put on a document to stop you is another matter; use it on files you have the right to.
Does the unlocked PDF change in any other way?
No. The pages, text, links, form fields and pictures are as they were; only the encryption and its limits are gone. A digital signature, if it had one, no longer verifies, because the file has been rewritten.
Which kinds of protection can it open?
The standard password protection every PDF program uses, old and new: 40- and 128-bit RC4, and 128- and 256-bit AES. PDFs locked to a certificate rather than a password are not opened, and the tool says so.
