MP4 to MP3
AudioDrop a video and get its sound back as an MP3 — made on your device, never uploaded.
The sound of a video is often the part worth keeping: a recorded lecture to listen to on a walk, an interview to transcribe, a talk, a voice message someone filmed instead of recording. Drop the video in, press Convert to MP3, and download the sound on its own — a file a fraction of the size that plays in any audio app.
Only the sound is read. The picture is never decoded, and the sound is taken a piece at a time and encoded as it goes, so a long recording does not have to fit in memory: a two-hour video came out as a 173 MB MP3 in under three minutes on a laptop, and a thirty-minute one in about forty seconds. All of it happens in your browser, which also means there is no upload to wait for — with a video, usually the slowest part of an online converter.

How it works
- 1Drop the video
MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV — one or several. They stay on your device.
- 2Choose the bitrate
192 kbps is the default. For speech, 128 kbps and Mono halve the file and lose nothing you would hear.
- 3Press Convert to MP3
Download the MP3, or a zip when there are several videos.
Frequently asked questions
How long a video can it take?
Long ones. The picture is skipped and the sound is read a piece at a time, so the length decides how long it takes, not whether it fits: measured on a laptop, thirty minutes of video in about forty seconds and two hours in under three minutes. A large result is written to the browser's own storage on your device rather than held in memory.
Which bitrate should I choose?
For a lecture, a meeting or an interview, 128 kbps with Channels set to Mono is plenty and makes the smallest file. For music, keep 192 kbps or go higher. A higher bitrate cannot add quality the video's sound did not have.
Does it work with iPhone and Android videos?
Yes. A phone records MP4 or MOV with ordinary AAC sound, which every current browser can read — and only the sound is read, so the picture's format does not matter.
What if the video has no sound?
The page says so — "There is no sound in this file" — rather than handing you a silent MP3. Screen recordings made without a microphone are the usual case.
Can I get WAV instead of MP3?
Yes: set Output format to WAV for an uncompressed copy of the sound, for editing. It is about seven times the size of a 192 kbps MP3.
Is the video uploaded?
No. The file is read by your own browser and the MP3 is made there; nothing is sent anywhere.
